A New Season

Autumn has been showing signs of arriving for a few weeks, but over the weekend, at the official start of that the season, she showed up in all her glory. This week the temperatures have been cooler, rainier and the fog stays settled on the river a little longer than other seasons. I've been lucky enough to catch the fog on its upward journey a few mornings on my commute. Having lived in a lowlands for 9 months, the fog rising against the backdrop of the foothills is truly a beautiful sight.

I'm more ready for this season than ever. My last few baking foray's have included pumpkin, cinnamon, apple and caramel. No, not all at once, but the results still tasted like fall. I've been drinking orange spice and apple spice teas. Treating myself to pumpkin vanilla coffee drinks from my local coffee shop and  am just really ready for all the leaves to change, setting the hills of my valley aflame in color.

This past weekend also brought homecoming for three of my younger cousins. While I missed one cousin because he was meeting his date early, there was a flurry of picture taking and last minute dress and hair adjusting with the other two. They were both gorgeous and I'm beyond thrilled to be back to share little moments like those with them. My cousins really are among my favorite people.

I'm looking forward to slowing down this season. Maybe getting around to finally unpacking some boxes from my move. More baking with seasonal ingredients. Reading and writing in a coffee shop, my hands wrapped around a seasonal drink. Perhaps taking in a football game or just sitting by a window watching the rain drizzle, getting lost in my own thoughts.

What are some of your favorite things about autumn?
