Making Me Happy

The past few weeks have been difficult. My mood has been down right gray, much like the long winter days that have settled in over my small town. I don't do cold very well; lately its become more and more evident that I need to live in a warmer climate. A place where I don't have to scrape snow and ice off my windshield on a daily basis. A place where I can actually walk outside, not just shuffle along over slush and salt.

Today the sun came out and my spirits were infinitely lifted. I've come to the conclusion seeing the sun on a nearly daily basis is vital to my existence. It makes me happy. Therefore, I'm sharing a few other things that basically made my day today:

*  Going to the card store on my lunch hour to buy some random cards to send to my friends. Sending mail when its least expected is fun for me and I hope brightens the day of the friend who receives it. I also love finding the perfect card for the perfect person. I may have laughed out loud once or twice in the store. Do I have your address to send you a card?

* While in the grocery store this song came over the speakers.
I've seen Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in concert before and this song always makes me smile. I may or may not have busted out some dance moves in the middle of the aisle. By may or may not have, I mean I totally did. Sometimes you just have to dance, even if it means strange looks from the other people buying cereal.

* Starbucks white chocolate mocha with raspberry flavoring. Enough said.

* Text messages and email exchanges with friends that just made my heart happier. A year or so ago I didn't know these great friends that I've met because of this little space on the internet and now I count them among my most trusted confidants.

* I'm currently watching The Goonies with my brother. Regardless of how many times I've seen this movie I will always stop what I am doing an watch. One of the best movies ever!

Whats making you happy today?

Sending cards always makes me feel good. Goonies is the BEST movie - I live in Oregon and we go to the Haystock Rock all the time (the HUGE rock at the end of the movie).

What made me happy today was seeing my daughters face light up when I went to her class to volunteer. Taking my son out to a fancy restaurant for a lunch "date". Surprising my kids by meeting up with their best friends for some bowling after school. A good day indeed!

Sending cards is great! I agree...the cold needs to go away (and that's coming from an Alabamian)!

Come live in Cali we never have to shovel snow.

Goonies is a fave of mine too. TRUFFLE SHUFFLE!

I always say I'm going to send cards, and then never do. Well, technically, I have sent out two now. Perhaps I will send more now that I reminded myself how much I LOVE writing notes. And I bought a cute address stamp. So I definitely need excuses to use that.

Long, dreary winter days are so difficult to survive with a happy attitude intact. I definitely feel you on that one. I'm pretty sure I've gone off the deep end - I now consider -20ºC (-4ºF) to be warm. Warm!

The one thing that made me happiest today was getting my textbooks for my next course. In the mail.

I find this the toughest time of year - no sun, no festivities to look forward to, constant grey above and a slushy, dirty brown below. It's gross and it gets me kind of down too - I long to live somewhere warm and sunny year-round!

Snail mail is wonderful. It was probably my favourite part about the whole month of December :)

What's making me happy right now? My little cat. She can bring a smile to the greyest of days!

What made me happy was yesterday at work, your small town song came on the radio and I knew all the words. And I sang them. =)

I feel you; the cold, grey days of winter are the worst.

I love mail.

Also, you should get a vitamin D lamp. I hear they help a lot with the "winter blues".

My happy yesterday? Meeting a friend for Mexican and laughing so loudly that people stared at us. Having leftovers for dinner tonight. Pounding out a few miles at the gym. Finishing a good book. Drifting to sleep with the sounds of Friends Season 1 in the background. Seeing that Lauren Graham will be coming up in a new tv show (Parenthood, NBC). All things that make me happy

Oh the Goonies!!!!!!!!!! One of my all time favorite movies. Next time I see Martha Plimpton at the butcher, I'll tell her how much we love that movie.

The sunshine is also making me happy and the anticipation of fun plans tomorrow and counting down to this weekend when I get to see my BFF and have some much overdue BFF bonding time!

This winter's kicking my ass too, at least when it comes to my mood.

Making CD's for other people makes me happy. Yours will be on its way soon!

You know what's funny? I was just going to do a post about what's making me happy lately!

Top of the list, strangely enough, are these new towels i recently bought at Target. They are so nice and soft. It's just wonderful to towel off with them. I've had my current towels for quite awhile & they just aren't soft like they used to be no matter how much fabric softener I use!

Oh, and card shopping rocks. I love buying cards for people. Confession: sometimes I buy cards and set them aside for when I am in love. I haven't given them to anyone yet but I have a couple of cards that I hope I can some day give to a special guy. :)

Dancing around my apartment to my iPod makes me happy. And that drink sound amazing too, it's a mix of all my favorite things!

That is soo weird because this song started playing in the store where I was shopping today!! I don't normally remember things like that but this song reminds me of my childhood in South Africa, very very good memories!! Highly doubt we were in the same store though, unless you were bustin your movies along an aisle in Target in Perth, Wester Australia?? Lol! Spooky! ;-)

Ooh, come join us in Southern California! There are tons of Universities (7 in my own little city) to work at and Friday I walked into work at 8:30am in short sleeves!
