You'd Never Guess

Its Friday. We are all eagerly anticipating the weekend and needing something light and fun to read. Right? So today, inspired by a tweet from a friend, I’m sharing four things you may not have guessed about me.

1. I enjoy target, skeet, and trap shooting. While I do well at all three, trap shooting is by far my favorite. There is something completely satisfying about obliterating an orange clay disc so it shatters just perfectly into a puff of smoke. I’ve been taking part in the sport for about four years now.

2. I have a slight obsession with Frank Lloyd Wright, particularly his organic architecture. I became hooked after a trip to Falling Water and would happily listen to someone discuss his designs for hours. I also really enjoy architecture as a whole. If I had any sort of brain for that I might have considered it for a career.

3. I don’t really plan on having any children of my own; but if I did, I think I would give serious thought to homeschooling them. Homeschooling allows for greater flexibility and freedom, can be tailored to a child’s individual needs/personality traits, and involves much more hands on learning as opposed to learning from a textbook. I am the product of a public school education system that I enjoyed but could have been much more. This could be a whole post entirely by itself.

4. I have climbed (as in a very narrow, straight up staircase seemingly suspended in midair with pigeons swooping mere inches from my head) to the uppermost part of the US Capitol, standing directly below the bronze Lady Freedom statue a top the Capitol Dome. The sights are breathtakingly beautiful and provide a vantage point of DC unlike any other. If you ever have the opportunity take a Capitol Dome tour, DO IT! Even if you are, like me, not too keen on heights.

What is something people may not guess about you?

FUN! I definitely would not have guessed #1!

Ummmm. I always have trouble answering this question about what people might now know about me. I will have to get back to you I think! Haha

I love that you shoot!

Also, if you love Frank Lloyd Wright, have you read Loving Frank? While it's not about architecture, persay, it's the fictionalized memoir of his lover and gives a lot of insight into him as a person. Definitely worth a read.

I would imagine skeet shooting to be alot like golf. Nothing feels better than taking your stress out on a very small inanimate object.

As for somethign surprising, I think you already know this about me but I absolutely love really, really hard rock music, like Tool. Especially when cleaning the house.

I love suburbia. And I desperately miss it. I miss the grass, trees, malls, chain stores, big grocery stores, SUVs...everything about it. But, I live in the biggest city in the U.S. Go figure.

This was fun to read! I am also obsessed w/ FLW. especially after doing the tour of his home & studio in Oak Park, IL. You should check that out if you ever are in the Chicago area.

Something people don't know about me. Hmmm. I really enjoy ironing? I know that is uber boring, but it's kind of odd because most people hate it but it's super calming/relaxing for me.

I never did that when I lived in DC. I'll have to hit up the dome on my next visit!

Wow you have to teach me how to skeet shoot. I've always wanted to try! Also, I don't know if I would homeschool my kids, I feel like school, while not always perfect, give such good social skills for kids. Tough call.

People may not realize how much I sometimes need my "me" time. I am very social, I like to meet new people, I make acquaintances very easily, so people think I always need to be surrounded by people. But I enjoy way too much those little moments that I spend with myself.
