Not Quite Ready

Time has this way of speeding up when I want it to slow down. The past few weeks have gone by incredibly fast and now its happening. There is a shift in the air -- its cooler, especially in the evenings. I'm hearing talk of apple and pumpkin festivals, October fests, and high school football. Big yellow school buses have slowly started making their appearance on my morning commute. I've even seen a few leaves already starting to turn.

I have to admit, I'm not quite ready to let go of summer just yet.

Not quite ready to let go of spending long evenings at the coffee shop laughing with my friend until the sky turns dark.

Not quite ready to let go of heading to a local park to take in the music/fountain show then looking for different star constellations when everything is still and quiet.

Not quite ready to let go evenings by the waterfront just hanging out listening to live music or just watching the river pass by.

Not quite ready to give up summer evenings on the deck or sitting by the pond with my mom listening to all the night sounds.

Not quite ready for outdoor concerts to be moved inside, because the evenings are starting get chilly.

I'm just not quite ready.

I like summer because of all the outdoor activities, but Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. It's rejuvenating to my soul! Enjoy the end of summer girly!

I totally agree- we haven't had 3 days of sun in a row in over a month, and while I'm glad that it's warmer out, the staying inside and dodging rain seems a lot like staying inside and dodging snow! I need a little more time to enjoy the outdoors before I can say goodbye to it.

I'm hoping we have September & October without rain or snow so I can study outside and play in the garden just a little while longer.

Eh, I'm kind of impartial to summer. I do love it, but fall and the start of winter has always been my favorite season. I love the crunch of leaves underfoot, the sharp chill of the air, pulling on a sweater for the first time...

It feels like fall here in StL currently! Our weekend weather was incredibly mild compared to what it usually is: high of 79 when it's usually close to 100. I would be okay with the weather if it just stayed this way and didn't change for quite sometime =) I know what you mean though. When summer is "over," it changes the mindset of a lot of people!

While I absolutely LOVE fall and I am excited for the leaves to change colour and the crisper air, I'm NOT excited for what will come shortly after - snow and winter!

I so could've written this post myself. It seems like I wait so long for summer to get here and then it does and it just passes by way too quickly. As much as I love fall, I'm not quite ready to let go of summer either.

Definitely feel the same way there. I feel like I've just started enjoying the summer with my bike and hanging out with my friends. But I am excited to see what fall has to bring.

It's so good to come back to your beautiful writing. The thing about the end of summer and not being ready is ... if we were ready, I don't think we'd appreciate it as much as we do. But, with a swift departure, it can only mean we'll look forward to it that much more next year.

I love fall, but I'm not ready either. But then again, here in Texas we are going on our 64th day of over 100 degree temperatures so I don't think I have much to worry about.

I love fall... but can't it just wait until, like, October? I need just a few more margaritas in the sun...

I'm not quite ready to face my [real] first fall. During fall, I've been to the States, but to Florida. And then I went to Argentina, but it was spring for them. So, yeah. I have NEVER experience fall.

I still feel like it's early June. Where did July and August go?

I'm not ready either. Can we pause time, just for a little bit?
