I've Got The Golden Ticket

About two hours ago, I found this email in my inbox:

Thank you for your reservation. A reservation for 3 people is being held for the QVC Beauty Bash event ….

Can I just tell you, it may or may not have been enough to send me giddily skipping down the hallway at work while singing “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket” in an incredibly annoying, high pitched sing-song-ey voice. I am beyond excited that I was able to get the reservation and have to admit, I threw my que sera sera attitude out of the window yesterday morning. I was an anxious, easily agitated person for a good 24 hours pacing back and forth wringing my hands, worried that I hadn’t been fast enough, replaying the events in my head.

I had known that yesterday was the day the reservation form for the Beauty Bash tickets would go up at 9AM on Feb. 16th thanks to following QVC on twitter. Back in November when I found out the date for the Beauty Bash, I booked a hotel reservation for that weekend (cart before horse, eggs not included). I also knew that my window of opportunity to obtain the tickets was incredibly small. Yesterday morning, I leapt out of bed early, a very rare occurrence, especially for a Monday. While getting dressed for the day, I decided to wear a shirt that had been purchased on last years trip and added some turquoise (its supposed to be lucky) that I had bought on the first trip. I suppose its sort of like thinking if you wear the same underwear for every football game, you’ll win. I hoped that somehow by choosing the outfit I did, the QVC gods would smile upon me. And they did.

Like a fighter psyching themselves up for a big fight, I came into work, cracked my knuckles over my black keyboard and gave myself a pep talk. “You can do this Mandy, you WILL get tickets.” I repeated it, like a mantra, my prayer to the home shopping deities. I loaded the webpage, printed off a page so the printer right outside my door would run through all its self testing and calibrations so I didn’t waste a single second once the reservation form magically appeared on the site. I pulled out my credit card and had a pen waiting for the precise moment when my hand could snatch the freshly printed form from the printer. I hit refresh on the page consecutively for a good five minutes. Then suddenly, THERE IT WAS!!! With a few clicks of the mouse, I could hear the soft whirring of the printer as it gave me my beloved form. My pen flew across the paper filling out vital information name, phone number, how many people would be in attendance with you, etc. I headed to the fax machine, hurriedly punched in the fax number (that I had already written on a post it, see I can really be efficient when I want to be) and waited for the familiar sounds of the beeping to let me know the fax had been sent. I waited and waited as precious seconds ticked by on the clock, the tic toc echoing in my ear. Finally the fax machine beeped, but it wasn’t the familiar beep. It was a beep telling me that it had received a busy signal. The fax hung up and hurriedly dialed again, repeating the process half a dozen times. In a near panic, I rushed to the copy machine, scanned a copy of the form making it a pdf that would be emailed to me. I then quickly logged back on to my computer, typed in the QVC email address adding BEAUTY BASH RESERVATION with what may or may not have been several exclamation points to the subject line. I tried the fax a few more times, but after another few minutes I gave up. I would have to cross my fingers, knock on wood, and hope that the email would be enough. When I checked the website on my lunch hour, the reservation form was gone and the two sessions were marked as FILLED in red font.

Getting tickets the Beauty Bash is apparently like being one of the lucky ones to get tickets to the 1998 Spice Girls concert that sold out Madison Square Garden in 12 minutes (I googled that just for you!). Had it been a physical ticket giveaway, it probably would not have been pretty.

Now that I’ve received the official confirmation and already have my hotel reservation, I have nothing to do but relax and plan the rest of the weekend trip. While going to QVC for the Beauty Bash is a fantastic time and yes, it involves meeting great people and getting tons of free swag there is more to it than that. This is my weekend with my mom. The weekend the two of us hit the open road, drive across the entire state of Pennsylvania singing horribly offkey to showtunes cds, talk about life and other plans. Its our mother/daughter weekend to just kick back and have fun. This year, my mom’s best friend is coming with us and the three of us will have a fantastic time.

Now, if you’ll excuse me; I have to get planning…. Like the Golden Ticket says "In your wildest dreams you can not imagine the marvelous surprises that await YOU!"
