Celebrating The Small Things

I made the conscious decision today that I was going to celebrate the small things and just enjoy whatever was thrown at me today. Its working, I am in a much better mood and have a better attitude. Today I...

  • Tipped the college aged guy at Starbucks $5 instead of $1 because he was talking about how expensive his college classes were this semester. I hope he buys a beer with it.

  • Bought Valentines Day cards to send to my friends. I don't care if I am single, I love my friends and there is no reason why I can't celebrate my friendships. Besides, I know how excited I am to get a piece of mail that's not a bill or junk mail. I hope it makes their day.

  • Sent out the package for my Blog Valentine. While I didn't have the time to make something homemade, I really hope the recipient enjoys it. Again, its always fun to get a package.

  • Held the door for an small elderly man on his way into the Post Office. After he was through the door, I noticed that his arm was broken and he was struggling to hold his few packages and envelopes, so I offered to hold them and put them on the counter for him. Typically I am too busy to even notice, it only took a few extra minutes. He smiled and thanked me, it made me happy.

  • Drove around on my lunch hour with the windows down and it felt great to have the wind blow all through my hair. Even if its short lived, this taste of Spring (sunny, warm, and windy) my area has had for the past few days is enough to blow away the literal and metaphorical grayness from my life.

  • Hid the number of unread blogs in my Google Reader so seeing the number won't stress me out, I'll get to them when I can get to them. While I will read and comment on a few. I'll enjoy reading the rest of them and commenting at a leisurely pace tonight, instead of the frantic squeezing in blogs here and there when I have a few minutes. If I don't get through them all, I'm ok with that too.

Today I am finding lots of reasons to smile. While it may sound cliche or corny, its true-- celebrating the small things makes me happy. Today, life is good. Now, who's with me--how are you celebrating the small things?

I sent my package for my blog friend last night and it made me so very happy!

And I made homemade cards to send to friends for V-Day.

Don't you love it when the attitude changes and suddenly everything is smiley and happy?

My small things today... looking at the clock and realizing I've been working fast and furious for hours, my dog gave me a "kiss" before I left for work this morning, and it's been raining all day. Sounds weird, but I LOVE rain.

Driving with the windows open makes me so happy, no matter what time of the year it is. Today was the first day all winter I could do it without the heat cranking.

You are awesome. I'm sure he will certainly buy a beer with it.

Loved this post! Yesterday, I let someone go in front of me because they only had one thing, and I felt bad with my four things! It just took a few more minutes, and helped them out!

I love this post! Good for you for finding so much joy.

Today I found much pleasure, as I always do, in cooking. I just pan fried a piece of fish (Arctic Char) with a quick lemon, chive, white wine sauce and a baked sweet potato on the side. So yummy!

Great great post Mandy!!

It sounds like a cliche, but happiness comes in little bits, not as a whole huge big *thing*.

I always look out for my friends on V-day - I sent them care packages with all things pink and cute and I baked heart shaped brownies and sent them in heart shaped hat boxes....pics to come on my blog!

How the heck do you hide the number of unread blogs you have? And once you do that, how do you know which blogs have been updated? I'm so in need of that!!!

Thank you. I needed this little reminder. And now, I'm walking away from my desk to buy myself a frozen yogurt and a smile.

And thanks for the note about hiding the unreads in your blogroll. Mine causes me to lose my breath.

What a great attitute to have! Getting mail that is not a bill always makes my day. Especially when it is my us magazine. Sometimes I don't get the mail for a few days just to pretend that I have no bills.

I really hope that college kid does buy himself a beer with that $5.
