Christmas Came A Little Early

For the past few months I have been really, really wanting a KitchenAid Mixer. It started a few weeks before Thanksgiving when I happened to catch a presentation on QVC of a top of the line (and expensive) KitchenAid Pro. I was immediately hooked and ready to buy one right then. In my mind I had already cleared a spot on the kitchen counter for the classic white workhorse of a mixer. I envisioned myself mixing up numerous batches of cookie after cookie in its 14 cups of flour capacity stainless steel bowl and humming Christmas carols to the tune of a 575 watt motor. It was love at first sight and I feel hard, really hard.

I spent hours online looking at it, replaying the video of everything this beautiful, classic piece of machinery could do. If I set foot into a store, I was pulled by some invisible force towards the kitchen appliances. I could hear the mixers calling my name together in a beautiful chorus that completely sucked me in, like old sailors tales of mermaids singing an enchanting song luring them further out to the ocean.

But as you know, I am not a professional baker. I don't even know that I am a mediocre backer. While its true I some day aspire to be amazingly talented like RebeccaC, I was having a hard time justifying the top of the line, 14 cups of flour capacity, 575 watt motor price tag. I don't bake all that much. Would I really use the shiny new mixer or would it be like a fun toy that I absolutely had to have, only to quickly forget about before moving on to the next new fun toy. I had the mixer in my shopping cart (both online and in the store) on numerous occasions. I reasoned back and forth, talked to my friends and family members, had several facebook discussions, tweeted with a fellow blogger friend over and over. I literally drooled on my keyboard when Auburn Kat posted about deciding to take the plunge and then buying her own coveted black KitchanAid.

I was thhhiiisssss close to finally buying one but the voice of reason (obviously I need to beat that damn little voice down harder next time) was always there in the back of my head. Over the weekend I resigned myself to the fact that I would be making cookies with the perfectly good mixer with glass bowl already settled on the kitchen counter. The KitchenAid was a want (a very strong want) but definitely not a need. I accepted the fact that while someday I would have a KitchenAid, right now was not the time.

Then, I received a phone call from Big T today while shopping on my lunch hour. I listened stunned as she breathlessly told me about a shiny white brand new KichenAid mixer she had one hand on claiming it for us. It was on sale plus and additional so much off, AND she had a coupon for even more off that she had verified with no less than three unfortunate employees (who happened to be walking past the half crazed woman in the form of my mother) that she could indeed use making the final price of the mixer incredibly affordable. It was the last one and I could hear her beating old women with her purse as she swatted their hands away from the beloved machine that she felt destined to be ours. I happened to be shopping in the same shopping complex and told her I would be right there. "BRING A CART!" were the last words I heard her exclaim into her cell phone. Like a super hero being called to action, I flew to my car, zoomed across the parking lot, may or may not have cut off a car or two before parking and running inside to grab a cart. I zigged when I should have zagged; cut through children’s clothing when I should have taken a left at bedding before finally arriving to the spot where my mother stood in all her glory (and coincidently in red, just like Santa) with her hands on the last mixer, a huge smile on her face. We had done it!

At this very moment the said KitchenAid is nestled lovingly in the trunk of my car and I am giddy with excitement at the very thought of taking it out the box, setting it on the counter and listening to the motor whirl. No its not the 14 cups of flour capacity bowl with the 575 watt motor, its a little smaller, and no its not the Professional one I initially had my heart set on. But its a KitchenAid, with mixing attachments that come within a dime's width of the side of the bowl and it will be showered with lots of love and affection. I can now join the ranks of RebeccaC, Auburn Kat, and even Rachel's daughter Diana. Tonight I will be making cookies and humming Christmas carols to the tune of my very own KitchenAid mixer!

Now, who has some recipes they wouldn't mind sharing?

Yay, KitchenAid! I have a purple one and I intend to use it this weekend to make three types of cookies. One type I've made before (big and chewy chocolate chip cookies) and two are new to me (peanut butter Snickers cookies and Andes mint chip cookies). I am so excited to get baking!

You know, this weekend, I asked one from my mother. When she saw the price tag, she told me I'd better pay my sister $2 so shewould hold the recipient for me.

Yeah for you...those mixers are awesome. I have one that I don't really use enough. However, this past Friday, 4 of us got together to make cookies. We had TWO of them going and probably made about 100 dozen of 8 different kinds of cookies. Maybe you could bring yours to Pgh next year. You would fit in perfectly!!

Thats what my mom got my sister and I. I am very excited but dissapointed at the same time...you see we have no kitchen space to do the KitchenAid justice, so my fiance said it cannot come out of the box until we do...feel for me!
