Q&A 1.2

I had a severe case of the Mondays today! How about the rest of you..did it seem like one of those Mondays?

Today's questions are from Coconut over at Yung and Easily Freudened . She asked:
Where is your favorite place you've ever been?

Ever been caught doing something really naughty?

Are you where you thought you'd be five years ago at this point in your life?

My favorite place? Growing up we did the standard vacations -- Disney World, Niagara Falls, the beach, the mountains, etc. A few years ago my mom and I took a few trips to Nashville and then to Denver. Going on vacation to new places is always fun, but I always return home feeling like need more time just to recover--there is so much to see and do, so much to cram into a week or two. I think my favorite place though is an island in Lake Erie that we've gone to practically my whole life. Its a small little island only accessible by Ferry. A place where the main mode of transportation is a golf cart, where there is only one small store that gets deliveries from the mainland once a week. The island boasts one restaurant which has two pool tables. The house we usually rent is on the lake complete with its own dock. You can wade out into lake for 300 yards or so before it comes up to your waist. There on the island you can just be. You don't have to rush around to get things done or see all the sites. The only amazing thing you won't want to miss is the sunset. In the mornings you can sit outside the house, watch the geese, listen to the lake lap the shore and enjoy the cool morning lake air blowing through the trees. After watching the sun sink into the lake, you can start a bonfire then sit outside till the wee hours of the morning counting the stars. If you feel ambitious you can take a ferry over to a bigger island and spend the day at a winery, visiting the butterfly house, or shopping in some of the touristy shops. Spending a week at the lake is complete heaven. Cell phone reception is minimal, there is no wireless Internet connection, and its my favorite place to go to just relax.

Sadly, no, I have never been caught doing something really naughty. There were times I could have been, but luck was on my side. My mom worked a lot and went to school so I was able to get away with a lot. Disappointing right?

Five years ago I was finishing up my senior year of college. I can honestly say that I had no idea where I would be or what I would be doing in the next few years. I'm not a planner. I tend to just go with the flow. I suppose I envisioned myself having a decent job, being with my friends, and just enjoying my life. Honestly, that's what I am doing. I was lucky enough to find a job close to home with a kick ass vacation/holiday plan, my closest friends are no more than two hours away, and I love my life. In that respect I am where I thought I would be. I don't have set times for major events in my life (like I have to be married by 26, own a house by 28, two kids by 30). I know of a few people who had set time lines and are now in situations that make them miserable. I tend to keep an open mind, if something comes along and is right I'll take it. If its not right, that's ok too. I will say the one thing I thought I would have by now but I don't is a Masters Degree, but I don't regret that. Right out of college I was all over the place. I applied to law school, a writing program, a public policy program and considered the peace corps. To jump right into a graduate program would have been a waste of time and money. Now I am more focused and have a clearer idea of what I want to be when I grow up. I'm still working on it though, maybe in the next five years?

Alright - fess up - which island? At first I thought you were going to say Put-In-Bay - but that's not exactly laid back (or at least parts of it aren't!!). Is it Kelly's? :)

Yeah - come join all the cool kids with that advanced degree. :)

I was just thinking that I needed to go up to the Falls one day after work!

I'm thinking I've heard of this island before!

Good for you for not having a set plan in life, I think it's better that way!

Hey...I would love to know what island also!! I am about 2 hours south of Erie and right about now, that sounds divine!!

Love the blog!

Kim--Put-In-Bay is fun for a day or when just going up for a quick weekend is friends, but the island I usually prefer is Middle Bass.

Auburn Kat -- My parents went to the falls on the Canadian side over Labor Day and were disappointed at how commercialized it had become. Is the US side that way? Its been years since I've been there.

Cherrie -- Middle Bass Island is a little piece of heaven. Its beautiful in the fall. There are some people that live there year round and use their snowmobiles to go back and forth between there and the main island.

Great, I've got 2 kids right now and now I'm going to be googling Middle Bass Island! Thanks a lot. If I have to call poision control because I'm not paying attention to them, it's all on YOU! That island sounds heavenly.... as long as there is wifi and cable.

NEVER been caught doing something? Oh c'mon Mandy, even I have been caught doing something bad!!!

LOL. Sorry I should have linked it and saved you the google search. I think there is basic cable...and no public wifi access unless thats changed in the last year or so that I've been there.

I've dont plenty of bad things, I just never got caught. I'm going to have to ask Big T.

That lake place sounds like heaven. I'd probably be stuck in the dock all day long.

Good answers! I'm a little disappointed that you never got caught doing anything naughty, though. And I definitely liked what you said about not having time lines for yourself. I know too many people that did and regret their choices.
